Surge Tester of KAST
is divided for the use of 3∼40 ㎸ by output voltage, and subdivided into type C of manual decision type, type A of auto decision type, type L of exclusive use for low inductance product test and type P loading printer which can printout its wave form and digital scope.

Necessity of Surge Test
Surge Test is necessary to all winding products(Motor, Trans, Relay, Magnet, Solenoid, Ignitor, and the like). Surge test is the only test method that directly presses an electrical stress on the coil part of which inside is not looked through, and makes it possible to look through the inside. Because it can take the quality and security(life) test on products. All winding products during its use, originate much higher Impulse than real impressed voltage, which Impulse can break coil itself. Accordingly, in advance, have to try to impress higher voltage than that and decide whether it stands the voltage or not. Also, in this process, it is possible to analyze the following properties by analyzing the peculiar free oscillation wave form originated right after impressing Impulse voltage.

  • Turn-to-turn short : phenomenon shorted between the side coils
  • Layer-to-layer short : short between up coil and down coil
  • Phase-to-phase short : short between the each other phases
  • Pinholes : bad insulation of enameled wire
  • Scratch : scratch of coil on working
  • Corona discharge : Arc or Spark phenomenon - Spark originated by the lack of dielectric strength between coils.

  • Quality of coil (Q) : Property compared with sample products
  • Inductance of coil(L) : Property compared with sample products

Surge test requires only 0.5 second. Because Surge tester already performs 30 times of Impulse voltage test only for 0.5 second.
